Story from Kim Epifano

Working with Kathleen, our bodies matched like Yin and Yang. We started the Saturday contact classes at that time with Footwork, which then became Dancers’ Group. When that shut down we continued the classes at ODC, which has continued now for many years, with so many wonderful teachers and students.

I think our investigation of upright and inversion physical dance phrases, contact improvisation, sound, and the essential performer kept us interested and creating.

We did not always agree, and this led to compromise, which led to innovation of ideas. We found this exciting. We loved to improvise together. It felt so natural, with deep trust and respect for one another.

I met Kathleen when she was working with Scott Wells, when they first moved to San Francisco. Then we danced in Contraband together, and our friendship and art continued.

Deep felt connection—a friend—a little sister.

Our investigation of upright and inversion physical dance phrases, contact improvisation, sound, and the essential performer kept us interested and creating.
